
Match 22 took place at the famous MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. It was a big game between two neighboring countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, in the World Cup, and cricket fans were very excited about it. Afghanistan really wanted to win their first-ever World Cup match against Pakistan, so this was a significant clash, can we have another world cup upset ?
Before the game, there was a coin toss to decide which team would bat first, and Pakistan won it. They decided to go to the batting side first. Pakistan’s opening batsmen, Imam and Shafique, got off to a good start, scoring 56 runs together. But Imam got out early and had to leave the field. Then, Babar, a cricket star, came in and, along with his teammates, pushed the team’s total to 110 runs.
Just when it seemed like Pakistan was finding its groove, Shafique, who had played really well and scored 58 runs, got out. Babar, however, kept going strong and scored an impressive 74 runs from 92 balls. Shabad and I Ahmad also contributed 40 runs each, helping Pakistan reach a competitive score of 282 runs in their allotted 50 overs.
Afghanistan’s bowlers did a great job, picking up wickets consistently. In the last eight overs of the match, Pakistan managed to score 75 runs, but it seemed like they could have scored a bit more. Noor Ahmad, one of the Afghan bowlers, was exceptional, taking three wickets while giving away 49 runs. Naveen-ul-Haq also played well, taking two crucial wickets for 52 runs.
Then it was Afghanistan’s turn to bat, and they were determined to win their first match against Pakistan. R. Gurbaz and I. Zadran, the opening batsmen for Afghanistan, started strong with a partnership of 130 runs in 21 overs. Gurbaz played really well, scoring 65 runs in just 53 balls before he got out. I. Zadran, on the other hand, was inching towards a century when he was dismissed at 87 runs with the team’s score at 190.
The Afghan captain, H. Shahidi, joined Sah, and they made sure Afghanistan didn’t lose any more wickets. They played smartly and took their team to victory in the 49th over. Rahmat Sah remained unbeaten at 77 runs, and Captain Shahidi added 48 runs in 45 balls. This win was a significant upset, as Afghanistan had already beaten world champions England in a previous match.
Ibrahim Zadran, who scored 87 runs, was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance. Afghanistan now has 4 points in the tournament, thanks to two major upsets, and they’ve moved up to the 6th position in the rankings. This victory will be remembered as a historic moment in Afghanistan’s cricket history, showing their growing strength on the global stage.
