The Chandrayaan programme, also referred to as the Indian Lunar Exploration Programme, constitutes a continuous sequence of outer space missions conducted by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) with the aim of investigating the Moon. This programme encompasses missions involving lunar orbiters, impactors, soft landers, and rover spacecraft.
To date, there have been three missions, yielding a combined tally of two orbiters, landers, and rovers. While the two orbiters achieved success, the initial lander and rover, integral to the Chandrayaan-2 mission, unfortunately encountered a crash upon reaching the lunar surface. Presently, the Chandrayaan-3 mission’s lander has reached lunar orbit and is scheduled for a landing on August 23rd.
