What an extraordinary day it was for Indian athletes at the World Championship 2023 held in Budapest. For us Indians, it felt like a cherished dream had finally come to fruition. This event marked a significant milestone as Indians had never before been so prominently engaged in the world of athletics at a championship where the qualification standards are exceedingly high.
Neeraj Chopra, a true champion in his own right, had been missing the gold medal from the World Championship in his collection. However, today was the day he accomplished that feat with an astounding second throw of 88.17 meters. What added even more astonishment and heartfelt joy to the occasion was the presence of two more Indian javelin throwers within the top six ranks in the world. Kishore Jena secured his place with an impressive throw of 84.77 meters, while D P Manu achieved a distance of 83.72 meters. Witnessing three Indian athletes among the first six in the global rankings was an exhilarating experience worth celebrating.
Neeraj Chopra can now proudly adorn his collection with both a World Championship gold medal and an Olympic gold medal. This IAAF World Championship has undoubtedly been an exceptional event for Indian athletes, as they have demonstrated their prowess on the global stage, overcoming historical challenges that athletes from this region have often faced.
