
On the 1st of October 2023, Day 8 of the Asian Games showcased outstanding performances by Indian athletes, bagged medals across various events. The day commenced with a brilliant Gold Medal victory in Shooting, marking the finale of the shooting events. The men’s team trap event saw a stellar performance by Darius Chenai, Joravar Singh Sandhu, and Prithviraj Tondaiman, clinching the Gold with a total of 361 points. In the men’s individual Trap event, shooter Kynan Chenai bagged the Bronze medal. India’s shooters had an exceptional run, contributing to the nation’s total of 22 medals, the highest count in the Asian Games.
In the women’s Trap event, the Indian team comprising Rajeswari Kumari, Manisha Keer, and Preeti Rajak showcased their prowess, securing a well-deserved Silver medal.

On the golf course, Aditi Ashok faced challenges, losing her lead but ultimately earning a Silver medal, a significant milestone in Indian golf history. The Indian women’s Golf team finished fourth.

In boxing, a prominent female athlete Nikhat Zareen faced a tough battle in the 50kg weight category semifinal, ultimately bagged medal for India as a Bronze, a testament to her remarkable skills as a two-time world champion.
In athletics, Avinash Sable kicked off the medal hunt by winning Gold in the men’s 3000m Steeplechase. The shot put event saw Tejinderpal Singh Toor defending his title with a Gold medal, while Sahib Singh secured eighth place.

Indian athletes performed admirably in the 1500m final, with Ajay Kumar Saroj and Jinson Johnson clinching Silver and Bronze medals respectively. Harmilan Bains made a remarkable comeback from injury, securing a Silver medal in the Women’s 1500m race.
Murali Sreeshankar showcased exceptional performance in the long jump, narrowly missing the Gold and settling for Silver with a jump of 8.19m where as Gold medalist best jump was just 0.03m (8.22m) more than Sreeshankar
In the Heptathlon event, Nandini Agasara bagged medals and claimed the Bronze, while last year’s champion Swapna Barman finished fourth.
Veteran Seema Punia, 40 year old continued to shine, adding a Bronze medal to her collection in the discus throw event. She has been Gold medalist in 2014, Bronze in 2018 and now again with Bronze medal in 2023

The 100m hurdles final witnessed controversy with a false start by Chinese athlete Wu Yanni, resulting in disqualification after race where she had Silver medal. Indian hurdler Jyothi Yarraji emerged victorious, medal upgraded to Silver medal with a time of 12.91 seconds.
In badminton, the Indian men’s team displayed exceptional skills, ultimately securing a historic Silver medal after a hard-fought final against China, ending with a 3-2 scoreline.
In hockey, India had a competitive match against South Korea in the pool stage, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Despite this, India maintained its position at the top of the pool with a superior goal difference.
