At the BWF World Badminton Championships, India’s leading men’s doubles duo comprising of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty faced a tough journey into the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, the women’s pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand were eliminated in the pre-quarterfinals by China’s Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan on Thursday.
The second-seeded team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who had previously secured the Commonwealth Games men’s doubles gold, encountered a challenging match against the sixth-seeded Indonesian pair Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin. After a fierce contest that spanned 61 minutes, the Indian duo emerged victorious in three games, with a final score of 21-15, 19-21, 21-9. Despite facing a setback in the closely contested second game, the World No.2 Indian pair, previous bronze medalists in the same tournament, showcased their determination to clinch their first-ever World Championship title this year.
In their pursuit of success, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty demonstrated their resilience and skill, effectively overcoming the Indonesians and progressing to the quarterfinals.
