
In the 24th match of the ICC World Cup, Australia played against the Netherlands at the famous Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Australia is a cricket powerhouse with a great history, having won the championship record breaking five times. On the other hand, the Netherlands is a novices in the cricket world. People all over the world were excited to see how this match would turn out.
Australia won the coin toss and chose to bat first, which means they would set the target for the Netherlands to chase. At the beginning of their innings, one of Australia’s players, Mitchel Marsh, was out after scoring only 28 runs. It made some people wonder if Australia would struggle, but that didn’t happen. Australian batsmen started scoring runs quickly, and it turned into a high-scoring match, which was exciting for fans in the stadium and those watching on TV.
The stars of Australia’s innings were David Warner scored 104 runs from 93 balls, which was a crucial part of Australia’s total and S Smith contributed 71 runs, and together they added 132 runs to the score. Later in the innings, Marnus Labuschagne played a great inning, adding 62 runs in just 47 balls. However, the real showstopper was Glenn Maxwell. He smashed an incredible 106 runs in just 44 balls. Maxwell’s century in 40balls is the fastest ever in the history of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, a record breaking feet which was set only three weeks before in 49 balls. Even though the Netherlands managed to take 8 wickets, Australia finished with a massive total of 399 runs in their 50 overs.
Netherlands began their innings to chase 399 runs and they lost their first wicket with only 28 runs on the board, just like Australia. But after that, their was nothing in similarity the netherland innings was very different. They struggled to score and were all out for only 90 runs in 21 overs. Adam Zampa was the hero for Australia, taking 4 wickets and giving away only 8 runs. In a surprising turn of events, the Netherlands lost 5 wickets while adding only 9 more runs.
Australia won the match by a huge margin of 309 runs, a record breaking margin to set a new record in the World Cup. This victory showed that Australia was back in top form after an early loss. Glenn Maxwell was named the Player of the Match for his extraordinary century.
With this win, Australia added 2 more points to their total, bringing it to 6 points in the tournament. This put them in a strong fourth position in the points table.
In short, this was a memorable match where Australia’s outstanding batting was on full display, while the Netherlands couldn’t keep up. Australia is back in contention, and they are ready to make a significant impact in the tournament.
