Match 20 happened at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, with England playing against South Africa in a cricket game. England won the coin toss and decided to field, meaning South Africa would bat first. But South Africa’s start was tough, with their opener de Kock getting out in the very first over with only 4 runs on the scoreboard. Then, the second pair of South African batters added a big 121 runs before one of them, R Van der Dussen, got caught out by Bairstow, thanks to a good ball by Adil Rashid.
During the innings, the fourth pair of South African batters managed to score 69 runs before another player, A Markram, got out, leaving South Africa at 233 runs for 4 wickets. H Klaasen was the star of the South African team, making an incredible century with 109 runs off just 67 balls. Later on, Jansen added a quick 75 runs from 42 balls. The English bowlers were struggling, and it seemed like they didn’t have a clear plan to stop the South African batsmen. In the end, after 50 overs, South Africa had a strong total of 399 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
Now, England had a big challenge ahead of them – they needed to score 400 runs to win. Unfortunately, they couldn’t figure out how to handle the South African bowlers. They kept losing wickets quickly and found themselves at a tough spot with only 100 runs for 8 wickets. A partnership of 70 runs between Atkinson and Wood gave them a respectable total , but it wasn’t enough. Atkinson was the last player to get out in the 22nd over, and Topley couldn’t bat because he was injured. England was all out with just 22 overs played.
South Africa outperformed the current world champions in every aspect of the game, winning by a massive 229 runs – a record-breaking victory in terms of runs in a one-day international. Heinrich Klaasen was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding 109 runs off 67 balls.
