India participated since 1900 in olympic in the only team event. The first athlete to appear in individual event was from 1920. The First Indian contingent Comprised Purna Banerjee( 100m and 400m) Phadeppa Chaugule (10000m and Marathon ) Sadashiv Datar (Marathon) Kumar Navale, Dinkkarao (Wrestling)
India Participated in 1948 London Olympics as Independent nation . India won its Fourth Consecutive Hockey Gold Medal. India won Gold in 1928, 1932, 1936 , 1948,1952, 1956, 1964 and 1980.
First Individual medal won by Wrestler KD Jadhav in 1952 Helsinki as Bronze . Although in 1900 Norman Pritchard was India’s first ever Olympic medalist but not under Indian Flag, he was Kolkata (Indian) born happened to be present in France thus participated .
Indian Shooter Abhinav Bindra was first Individual Gold medalist in 2008 Beijing Olympic in 10m Air rifle Event. This was turning point in Indian Sports and since then it has achieved a new hieght, India has been able to bag 35 medals in total where 12 medal is from men’s Hockey team.
Neeraj Chopra became only Indian to win Gold Medal at Tokyo Olympic 2020 in Athletics event in Javelin Throw. he is the only Second individual to win Gold for India in Olympic.
Karnam Malleswari became first ever India women to win a medal in Olympic event. She bagged Bronze medal in the women’s 69 kg weightlifing category in 2000, Sydney Olympic.
Indian Shooter Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore won the First Silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympic in Men’s double trap shooting .
India is hoping to get more medals from different events in Paris 2024. Shooting, Badminton, Archery , weightlifting and athletes to add to the total.
Today, 25 th July Indian Archers will be on field for raking scheduled . india’s men and Women are capable of getting medals . Dipika Kumari is participating in her Fourth Olympic and eager to get hold of medal.
