
As per a notification from the Lok Sabha Secretariat, The New Parliament building, located in New Delhi at Plot Number 118 and positioned east of the existing Parliament House with Raisina road to the south and Red Cross road to the north, has officially been designated as the Parliament House of India.
The Central Vista Redevelopment Project by the Indian government was launched in 2019. It encompasses various developments in New Delhi. These included the construction of the new parliament building, redevelopment of Kartavya Path, a new residence for the vice president, a new office and residence for the Prime Minister, and consolidating all ministerial buildings into a single central secretariat.
The construction begin in October 2020 with grand ceremony with Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying the foundation stone on 10 December 2020. However, the Central Vista Redevelopment Project faced legal challenges, and the Supreme Court of India, led by Justice A. M. Khanwilkar, temporarily halted the project pending resolution of the legal pleas against it. Subsequently, in January 2021, the project received clearance from the Supreme Court, with conditions to safeguard the environmental concerns. Thereafter construction on the new building commenced.
On 28 May 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated India’s new parliament building in a grand ceremony. Special Parliament session was schedule from 19 September2023 on the auspacious day of Ganesh Chaturthi . This was to be inauguralsession in the New Parliament House known to be as The Parliament House of India.
