BPSC-71st Combined Competitive Examination(CCE)
The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) 71st Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) Prelims online application form can be submitted between June 2, 2025, and June 30, 2025. The preliminary exam is scheduled for August 30, 2025

Important Points:
- The official website for online applications is bpsconline.bihar.gov.in.
- Candidates are advised to confirm all dates from the official BPSC website.
- The 71st CCE is a three-stage selection process: Preliminary, Mains, and Interview.
- The Preliminary exam is an objective-type screening test.
Part – 1
Preliminary Examination
- The preliminary examination will consist of two papers, with a total of 150 questions carrying 150 marks.
- The question paper will be available in both Hindi and English.
- The general studies paper in the preliminary exam will consist of objective-type and multiple-choice questions.
- Candidates are not allowed to use calculators for answering objective-type question papers.
- The preliminary exam will be a screening test, and its purpose is to shortlist candidates for the main examination.
- Hence, marks obtained in the preliminary exam will not be counted for final merit.
- Qualification in this exam is mandatory, and candidates must obtain the minimum qualifying marks as prescribed by the Commission.
- A total of ten times the number of available vacancies will be selected for the main exam based on the preliminary exam results.
- There is no provision for re-evaluation or re-checking of preliminary exam answer sheets.

- In General Hindi, candidates must secure 30% minimum qualifying marks to be eligible for merit. However, these marks will not be counted in the final ranking.
- The syllabus of the compulsory subjects will be similar to the three-tier UPSC civil services exam pattern.
Optional Subject (One only)
- Each optional subject will carry 300 marks and will be of 3 hours duration.

Important Notes:
- All question papers will be available in Hindi and English.
- For language and literature subjects, answers must be written in the language selected. No change in language is permitted.
- Candidates can answer in technical words/terms in English even if the answer paper is in Hindi.
- Candidates must write answers themselves; no outside assistance is permitted under any circumstances.
- Evaluation will focus on precise, concise, and effective expression with minimum and correct usage of words.
- Where necessary, questions involving measurements will use the metric system.
- Candidates must use only Indian numerals (1, 2, 3, …) in their answers.
- Use of calculators is allowed in the main exam only if required, but candidates must bring their own calculators. No exchange of calculators is allowed.
Part – 3
Personality Test (Interview)
- Candidates who qualify in the main exam will be called for the personality test/interview, which carries 120 marks.
- The final merit list will be prepared based on a total of 1020 marks (900 from the main exam + 120 from the interview).
- The Commission reserves the right to recommend candidates for suitable posts based on their expressed preferences and suitability as determined through interview and overall performance.
Preliminary Examination Syllabus (Translated to English)
General Studies
In this section, questions will be asked from the following areas of Knowledge and Science:
General Science:
- National and General Science:
Questions related to general science and its relevance to national and international importance, important social events, and major highlights of history related to India and Bihar.
General Geography:
- Questions will include important physiographic divisions of Bihar, its major rivers, state political and economic structure, and major changes in Bihar’s economy post-independence.
- Questions may also focus on India’s national movement and Bihar’s contribution in it.
General Mental Ability
- Questions to assess basic general awareness, comprehension, and interpretation skills based on day-to-day experiences and observations.
- The questions will be designed in such a way that any well-informed person can answer them without having studied the subject in depth.
- In history, special emphasis will be given to understanding the subject in social, economic, and political contexts.
- Candidates are expected to be familiar with major historical events of Bihar.
Geography Focused on “India and Bihar”:
- In this section, questions will cover social and economic geography of the country.
- Emphasis will be on Indian agriculture and key features of resource distribution.
- The political and economic structure of India and development schemes, especially with reference to Bihar, will also be assessed.
Indian National Movement:
- Questions will be based on the revival of the 19th century, evolution and significance of nationalism, and the freedom movement.
- Candidates are expected to answer questions related to Bihar’s contribution in India’s freedom struggle.
This syllabus aims to test the candidate’s general awareness of their surroundings, knowledge of important events, and understanding of national and regional issues—especially concerning Bihar and India.

इस प्रश्नपत्र में प्रश्न बिहार विद्यालय परीक्षा समिति के माध्यमिक (सेकेंडरी) स्तर के होंगे। इस परीक्षा में सरल हिंदी में अपने विचारों को स्पष्टतः एवं शुद्ध-ashuddh रूप में व्यक्त करने की क्षमता तथा सरल लेखन कौशल की जांच की जाएगी।

MAIN EXAMINATION
GENERAL STUDIES
General studies papers I and paper II will cover the following areas of knowledge:-
02. GENERAL STUDIES PAPER- I
(1) Modern History of India and Indian culture.
(2) Current events of national and international importance.
(3) Statistical analysis, graphs and diagrams.
In paper-I
- Modern History of India and Indian Culture will cover the broad history of the country (with special reference to Bihar) from about the middle of the nineteenth century. The modern history of Bihar will include questions on the introduction and expansion of Western education (including technical education).
- It will also have questions on Bihar’s role in the freedom struggle of India. Questions will relate to the Santhal Uprising, 1857 in Bihar, Birsa movement, Champaran Satyagrah, and the Quit India Movement 1942.
- A knowledge of the chief features of Mauryan and Pal art and Patna Qulam painting will be expected from the examinees.
- It would also include questions on Gandhi, Tagore and Nehru.
- The part relating to statistical analysis, graphs and diagrams will include exercises to test the candidate’s ability to draw common sense conclusions from information presented in statistical, graphical or diagrammatic form and to point out eficiencies, limitations or inconsistencies therein
03. GENERAL STUDIES PAPER- II
(1) Indian Polity:
(2) Indian economy and Geography of India; and
(3) The role and impact of science and technology in the development of India.
In Paper II,
- The part relating to Indian Polity will include questions on the political system in India including Bihar.
- In the part pertaining to the Indian Economy and Geography of India, questions will be put on planning in India and the physical, economic and social geography of India and Bihar.
- In the third part relating to the role and impact of science and technology in the development of India, questions will be asked to test the candidate’s awareness of the role and impact of science and technology in India and Bihar Emphasis will be on applied aspects.
