1. Parliament Passes Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026: The Rajya Sabha passed the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026, after its passage in the Lok Sabha. To modernise the legal framework governing the evidentiary value and production of banking records in line with contemporary banking systems.

2. Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026: The Lok Sabha passed the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026. Its purpose is to establish an independent National Tribunals Commission to oversee selection, performance and administration of national tribunals.

3. India’s Lion Population Rises: On World Lion Day, PM Narendra Modi highlighted India’s conservation success: Asiatic lion numbers increased from 523 to 891 in the last decade.

4. Bank in a Box for Urban Cooperative Banks: Union Home & Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched ‘Bank in a Box’ at the Sahkar Nav-Kranti programme. To  Modernise Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) through core banking, digital payments, cloud infrastructure and regulatory-compliance solutions.

5. Jharkhand Student Protest Over Recruitment Exams: Students protested in Ranchi against alleged irregularities in JPSC/JSSC recruitment examinations. Former JPSC Chairman L. Khiangte was arrested, while three serving JPSC members resigned.

1. Russia Proposes Rail Route to Indian Ocean: Russia proposed exploring a railway route connecting Russia towards the Indian Ocean and India. To reduce dependence on maritime chokepoints such as the Strait of Hormuz and Bosphorus.

2. Mustard Honey Export from Tripura: APEDA facilitated the first export of 1 MT mustard honey from a Tripura Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) to Dubai.

1. 7.4-Magnitude Earthquake in Colombia: A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia, causing deaths and extensive structural damage.

2. Yemen Conflict: UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg expressed concern over Houthi attacks on the government-held city of Mocha, warning that escalation could push Yemen back towards full-scale conflict.

3. Typhoon Dolphin Hits China: China evacuated more than one million people as Typhoon Dolphin made landfall in eastern China. Nearly 1,000 flights were cancelled in Shanghai.

1. India–US Navy EOD Exercise 2026:The Indian Navy–US Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Exercise 2026 is being conducted at Southern Naval Command, Kochi, until 14 August. To improve interoperability and professional cooperation between specialist diving and EOD teams.

2. HAL Revives Su-30MKI Production Line

• HAL has revived the Su-30MKI production line at Nashik, Maharashtra.
• Plan: 12 new Su-30MKI aircraft for the IAF, with deliveries extending to 2029; first aircraft expected in 2027–28.
• Focus: Indigenous assembly, IAF modernisation and India-Russia defence cooperation.

3. India Explores France’s FCAS Programme: India is exploring participation in France’s Future Combat Air System (FCAS) sixth-generation fighter programme. This is an exploratory cooperation proposal, not a concluded acquisition.

2. World Athletics U20 Championships

• Basant Kumar Meghwal won Silver in men’s high jump with a 2.21 m personal best.
• Shahnavaz Khan won Bronze in men’s long jump with 7.84 m.
• Both became the first Indians to win medals in these respective events at the championships.

3. Asian Junior Weightlifting Championships: Maharajan Arumugapandian won Silver in the men’s 65 kg category in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

4. Aerobic Gymnastics History: Manipur’s Ariha Pangambam secured India’s first-ever individual gold at the Senior Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships.
