1. Union Cabinet Approves ₹13,041 Crore Infrastructure Projects: The Union Cabinet approved five projects—four railway projects and one highway project—worth ₹13,041 crore.
2. New Rapid Cargo Service on Western Dedicated Freight Corridor: DFCCIL launched Joint Parcel Product–Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS) on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).
3. Maharashtra Declares Snakebite a Notifiable Disease: Maharashtra declared snakebite a notifiable disease on 18 August 2026. Reporting is mandatory for suspected, probable and confirmed cases and deaths.
4. NMC Proposes Unique ID for Medical Practitioners: NMC’s draft Registration of Medical Practitioners and Licence to Practice Medicine (Amendment) Regulations, 2026 proposes a centrally generated Unique Identification (UID) for registered doctors through the Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB).
5. Free Online Coaching for Competitive Exams
- Education Minister Pralhad Joshi reviewed the implementation of the initiative providing free online coaching to youth preparing for competitive examinations.
6. West Bengal’s First Kaushal Mahotsav: Held at Balurghat Stadium, Dakshin Dinajpur, on 18 August. It was the 11th Kaushal Mahotsav organised nationally. Organised by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, NSDC and West Bengal Government.
7. New Telecom Rule on SIM Cards: Department of Telecommunications directed operators to deny new mobile connections to subscribers already having nine SIM cards registered in their name. From 23 August, a representative image of subscribers reaching the limit will also be available on the DIP.
8. Tamil Nadu Extends Maternity Leave for Third Child: Tamil Nadu announced 365 days of maternity leave for women state government employees for a third child. The leave period is equivalent to that available for the first two deliveries.
9. DRI Seizes Methamphetamine: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence intercepted an attempted illegal export of about 56 kg of methamphetamine to Saudi Arabia at Nhava Sheva Port and arrested two persons.

1. Indigenous PGB-500 Precision-Guided Bomb Trials: DRDO and IAF will conduct carriage and release flight trials of PGB-500 from the Su-30MKI during September–October 2026.
2. High-Altitude Heavy-Fuel Logistics Drone: DRDO has set demanding specifications for a heavy-fuel VTOL logistics drone for supplying Army posts along the LAC and LoC.
3. Naval Submarine Rescue Infrastructure: Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla inaugurated the Launch and Recovery System (LARS) Test Plinth at the Submarine Rescue Unit (East), Visakhapatnam.
