Assam Passes Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill:The Assam Assembly passed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, 2026 through a voice vote, becoming the third Indian state after Uttarakhand and Gujarat to enact a common civil framework governing marriage, divorce, inheritance, and live-in relationships. Scheduled Tribes (STs) remain exempt to protect customary practices.
SARTHAK-PDS Scheme Extended till 2031: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved continuation of SARTHAK-PDS till March 2031 to modernise the Public Distribution System (PDS) through automation, ration transport support, dealer incentives, and technology upgrades.
