On the 26th of August, 2023, during an address to scientists at ISRO in Bangalore, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi extended heartfelt congratulations to each member of the organization and the entire nation for their remarkable achievement on the Lunar surface. Overcome with emotion, he even playfully apologized for the early morning hour at which he was speaking.
During the same address, in accordance with international norms, the Prime Minister officially christened the location on the moon where the Vikram lander had successfully touched down. This significant site was designated as “SHIV SHAKTI.”
In a deeply symbolic gesture, the Prime Minister took the opportunity to fulfill a promise that had been pending for four years since the Chandrayaan 2 mission’s landing. Back when Chandrayaan 2 touched down on the lunar surface, it had been decided that the landing point would be named only after success landing on the moon which has been achieved now. Accordingly, that momentous location has now been officially named “TIRANGA” evoking the proud imagery of the tricolor flag. This historic naming will forever leave an indelible mark on the lunar landscape, symbolizing India’s space exploration achievements.
