World’s Shortest test match finished on 04 January 2024 at Newlands Cricket Ground, Cape Town, South Africa. India took on host nation South Africa on 3rd January 2024 in their 2nd Test match of the series . India had lost its first test match of the series by an Innings and 32 runs. It was humiliating . India in New year went to a venue where she had never won a match.
23 Wickets on First Day of Test Match
South Africa won the toss and decided to bat knowing the condition of the Pitch. India pace battery of Bumrah, Siraj, Mukesh and Prasidih krishna were to be tested for second time on tour. Md Siraj was at his best and didn’t let South Africa to settle. South Africa in their first inning could not able to survive the First Session and were bowled out at 55 runs.
Md Siraj was peak of the bowler picking 6 of proteas by giving 15 runs in 9 overs. Mukesh picked up 2 wickets. South Africa could not survive 24 over and were all out in 23.2 overs. K Verreynne was the highest scorer with 15 runs and D Bedingham with 12 runs were only player in double digit.
India started their First innings and lost Yasaswi Jaiswal early when total was at 17 runs. He could not open his account. Rohit and Gill steered inning well past South Africa’s inning . R Sharma was next to leave at 72 . Gill was back in pavilion at 105 . Kohli and KL Rahul took the score to 153 when Rahul was out. Then something happened which was unprecedented and unexpected. India were all out at the same score of 153 runs. India lost 6 wicket in 11 balls without scoring any run. India were 98 runs ahead. South Africa started their second inning in third session of the First day and lost 3 wickets .

On the second day Bedingham was first to be back at the score of 66runs. A Markram was holding one end where as South Africa kept on loosing wickets from the other end. A. Markram played a brilliant innings to score 106 of 103 balls . Jasprit Bumrah was at his best and picked up 6 wickets by giving 61 runs . Mukesh got 2 wickets. South Africa finished their innings at 176 runs. India needed 79 runs to register a historic win at Cape town.
India in their chase started at fast pace and scored 44 before Jaiswal got out . S Gill was next to got out at 57 . Kohli and Sharma took the score to one short away from victory when Kohli got out at 75 . India registered 7 wicket win over South Africa in just 5 Session a historic world record and Shortest Test match played .
Md Siraj was declared Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling in the First Inning . D Elgar and J Bumrah declared joint player of the Series. It was farewell Series for Dean Elgar and says good bye to Test Match cricket.
