India Launches Precision Strikes in Pakistan and PoK Under ‘Operation Sindoor’ Following Pahalgam Terror Attack

In a decisive military action, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor at approximately 0140 hours on May 7, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The strikes come in response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 Hindu pilgrims were brutally murdered after reportedly being asked their religion.

Operation Sindoor:Strategic Targets Hit

As part of the operation, India struck nine specific locations that intelligence agencies confirmed were being used to train, harbor, and launch terrorists into Indian territory. The targets included terrorist headquarters, training camps, and launch pads — carefully selected to ensure only those directly involved in terrorist activities were affected.

According to Pakistan’s Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary, Indian forces struck targets in:

  • Kotli, Bhimber, Gulpur, Muzaffarabad (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir)
  • Muridke, Bahawalpur, Chak Amru, and Sialkot (across the International Border in Pakistan)

Notably, no Pakistani military facilities were targeted, with Indian officials reiterating the country’s measured approach and “considerable restraint” in both target selection and execution methods.

Terror Infrastructure Under Fire

  • Muridke – 30 Km from the border opposite SambaKnown as the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), led by Hafiz Saeed.
  • Bahawalpur – Located around around 100 km from the International boundary. A base of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), the terrorist outfit led by Masood Azhar.
  • Kotli – 15 km from LoC opposite Rajauri. A hub for multiple groups, including LeT, JeM, Al Badr, HuJI, HM, and HuM — equipped with training facilities and launch pads.
  • Gulpur– 35 km from LoC Poonch-Rajauri. The roots of attacks in Poonch on 20 April 2023,and the attack on innocent pilgrims travelling in a bus on 24 June were conducted from this base.
  • Sawai– LeT Camp , 30 km inside PoK . Roots of Pahalgam attack.
  • Bilal Camp– JeM Launchpad.
  • Barnala Camp– 10 km from LoC opposite Rajauri
  • Sartaj Camp-JeM camp about 8 Km from IB opposite Katua-Samba
  • Mehmoona Camp– 15 km from IB , near Sialkot

Domestic Unanimity and Preparedness

The strikes followed extensive discussions within the Indian government, including multi-party consultations in which all major political groups supported firm action against the perpetrators of the Pahalgam massacre.

To prepare for potential retaliation, India has carried out blackout and siren drills across 244 districts, signaling a high state of readiness. Security forces are on alert for any misadventure from across the border.

Early Results and Future Outlook

Initial media reports suggest that at least four top commanders of Jaish-e-Mohammad were eliminated in the strikes. However, the extent of damage to the terrorist infrastructure is still being assessed.

“This is just the beginning,” a senior defense source stated. “Further actions will depend on Pakistan’s behavior and the evolving security situation.”

Despite international pressure, Pakistan has failed to take credible action against terror groups operating from its soil in the days following the Pahalgam killings. Instead, ceasefire violations along the Line of Control have continued, further escalating tensions.

Conclusion

Operation Sindoor marks a firm and focused counter-terrorism step by India, sending a clear message that terrorism and its sponsors will face direct consequences. While the response from Pakistan remains uncertain, Indian Armed Forces remain fully prepared for any escalation.
