
The New Parliament building which was inaugurated on 28 May 2023 has come to operational and started a special session from 19 September 2023. This newly constructed parliament is extending in an impressive built up area of around 65000 quare meters. It was completed at a cost of Rs 970 crore. It has entrances exclusive for VIPs, Members of Parliament (MPs), and visitors. The New Parliament has three main gates as Shakti Dwar, Gyan Dwar, and Karma Dwar.
The building has beeen executed by Tata Projects Limited. The Lok Sabha will now comfortably seat 888 members, a notable increase from the previous 552 seats. Similarly, the Rajya Sabha’s capacity has been expanded to accommodate 384 seats, an increase of 139 seats compared to the old Parliament. During joint sessions, the Lok Sabha seating capacity can be increased to a maximum of 1,272. This modern building will house a prestigious constitution hall showcasing India’s democratic legacy, a designated lounge for MPs, a library, numerous committee rooms, dining areas, and substantial parking. Within the chambers of the two Houses, intelligent displays and biometrics have been incorporated to streamline the voting process. Members’ seats are outfitted with programmable microphones, digital language interpretation features, and a robust recording infrastructure.The innovative design of the new Parliament is intended to stand the test of time for at least 150 years.
