Assam Passes Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, 2026: The Assam Legislative Assembly passed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, 2026, making Assam the third state after Uttarakhand and Gujarat to implement a common civil framework for marriage, divorce, inheritance, and live-in relationships. The law exempts Scheduled Tribes (STs) to safeguard customary rights under the Sixth Schedule.
